Course Title: Zoology

Course Description:
This course introduces students to the study of animals, their biology, behavior, and classification. Topics include animal anatomy and physiology, evolution, ecology, and the diversity of life forms across different animal phyla. Students will explore both invertebrate and vertebrate species, examining their structure, function, and role within ecosystems. Laboratory work and field studies will provide hands-on experience in observing animal behavior, anatomical dissections, and the application of biological principles to understanding animal life.

Course Topics Include:
- Introduction to the study of zoology and animal biology
- Classification and taxonomy of animal species
- Animal cell structure, function, and metabolism
- Animal anatomy and physiology: circulatory, digestive, and nervous systems
- Evolutionary biology and the theory of natural selection
- Ecology and animal behavior: interactions with the environment
- Invertebrates: structure, function, and diversity
- Vertebrates: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals
- Reproductive systems and development in animals
- Conservation and ethical issues in the study of animals

Course Objectives:
- Understand the diversity of the animal kingdom and the classification of animals.
- Learn the physiological processes and anatomy of different animal groups.
- Study animal behavior and its ecological significance.
- Gain practical experience in observing and dissecting animals.
- Apply evolutionary theory to understand the adaptation of animal species.
- Prepare students for careers in zoology, wildlife biology, conservation, or veterinary sciences.

Prerequisites:
- Basic knowledge of biology and general science concepts.
- Prior coursework in biology or introductory life sciences may be helpful.

Credit Hours:
3 (with optional lab or field study component).

Assessment Methods:
- Quizzes and exams
- Laboratory reports and dissections
- Research projects and presentations
- Participation in class discussions and field studies
